PM 694b – Supply Chain Project Management (Elective)

Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce students to Supply Chain Management and how efficient and effective practices can aid in the success of Project Management.  The course will introduce the logic behind this integration and discuss how organizations have gained a sustainable competitive advantage, reduced costs and achieved superior customer satisfaction by implementing programs of Total Supply Chain Logistics Management into their projects. The course will also look at the critical role information technology plays in achieving this success. The customer service role of the logistics function will be examined from the perspectives of both the organization and the Project Managers.

 

Instructional Goals And Objectives:

The primary goals and objectives of this course are to:

  1. Provide an integrated perspective of logistics operations and supply chain management
      and their relationship to project management.
  2. Introduce supply chain management concepts, issues, procedures, and terminology.
  3. Illustrate how customer value in project management is created through supply chain
      operations.
  4. Reveal the effects of efficient supply chain operations on economic prosperity in Alaska.
  5. Explore how information technology is used to integrate and manage the supply chain.
  6. Explore the driving forces changing the supply chain environment.
  7. Explore how the individual and the organization can provide a level of customer service
      that exceeds customer expectations.

Course Activities:

Syllabus

This course will use an integrated and interactive approach to student learning. A variety of content delivery and reinforcement techniques will be used, including: instructor-led lectures and discussions, small and large group discussions and presentations, case study exploration, video presentations, and guest lectures.
