Hongyuan, China
Initially, we
began with a sanitation project located in Hongyuan,
China. Phase I of the project involved a Site
Assessment, which consisted of data collection and
community meetings. We sent two engineering
students, our UAA club advisors (Profs. Yang and
Schnabel) to conduct the initial Site Assessment in
August 2005. During the school year 2005-2006, club
students designed a wastewater
system based upon information collected from the
Site Assessment. By Summer 2005, we planned to send a
larger contingent of students to construct the
student-derived design. Unfortunately this
project was determined not feasible after the site
assessment when it proved extremely difficult to
obtain visas for reentry.
Currently the
club is rebuilding and researching for future
projects.
