Catalog Description

Fundamentals of engineering hydrology and hydraulic engineering, precipitation, runoff, statistical methods, flood control, open channels, and groundwater.

Course Objective

This course is designed to give civil engineering students the ability to analyze and design the various components of water resource systems.

Prerequisite(s)

Required:  ES 341 Fluid Mechanics

Expected Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course students will have:

• An understanding of how Water Resource Engineering is a part of Civil Engineering
• An understanding of the conflicts that result from development of Water Resources projects
• A quantitative understanding of the hydrologic cycle including probability concepts
• An ability to:
  • Design pressure conduit systems
  • Design open channel systems
  • Design hydraulic machinery
