Course Description

Essentials of structural design in concrete.  Building code requirements and standard practice for the design of basic structural elements and connections are covered.

Course Objective

This course is designed to give senior civil engineering students the ability to design basic concrete structural components.

Prerequisite(s)

CE 431 - Structural Analysis with a grade of "C" or better

Expected Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course, the students will have:

Topics Covered

Introduction and material properties; design methods; design of beams for flexure; design of beams for shear; development of reinforcement; continuity in building frames; design of one-way slabs; design of t-beams; deflection calculations; design of footings; design of cantilevered retaining walls.
