GEO 257 - Elements of Photogrammetry

3.0 Semester Credit Hours – Offered every Fall semester

Course Description

Introduction to photogrammetric mapping including history, aerial cameras, optics, geometry of the aerial photograph, stereoscopes, parallax, and flight planning. Basic mathematics of photogrammetry and transformations. Techniques in the use of stereoscopes and photogrammetric plotters.

Course Design

This course provides the students with the fundamental theory and skills of introductory photogrammetry. It teaches the student use of a photogrammetry stereo plotter and requires a map project.

Prerequisites

A grade of C or higher in both MATH A108 and GEO A157

Expected Outcomes

Upon  successful course completion the student will be able to do the following:

• Understand the history of photogrammetry
• Understand the principles of photogrammetry
• Understand the theory of mapping cameras
• Understand the theory of image measurements and refinements
• Understand interior, relative, and absolute orientations
• Solve photogrammetric problems
• Create a flight plan
• Create a map using a digital photogrammetric stereo plotter
